The Bourgas region has been a crossroad of ancient civilizations since the VII – V century BC. Evidences for that can be seen in each museum in the area: items from the prehistoric times (IV-V century BC), artifacts from Thracian times, from the Hellenic colonization of the Black sea and from the Roman Empire.

Sozopol is located on the Southern Black Sea Coast, 35 km south of Bourgas. It is a very ancient town and one of the most famous Bulgarian Sea resorts. According to archaeological researches, the first settlement on the territory of Sozopol grew up around 4th-3rd century BC. In year 610 BC was founded a Hellenic colony under the name Appolonia Pontica. Like Nessebar, Sozopol is divided into old part and new part.

With a population of some 300,000 , Bourgas is the second largest city on the Black Sea coast but its main attraction is without doubt the sea. With its international airport, Bourgas is a great starting point for visiting the southern coast.

The town of Nessebar is a Sea resort and is situated 36 km northeast of Bourgas. Nessebar is one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria and Europe. It was founded 3200 years ago by Thracian settlers and was called Melsambria and later on - Mesembria. In our days, the town of Nessebar is divided into two parts - the Old town and the New town.

The town of Pomorie lies about 20 km away from Bourgas, to the North. It is situated on a narrow peninsula in Bourgas Bay. This is a very old town, which was founded by the Ancient Greeks. The old name of Pomorie was “Anchialos”. Nowadays, Pomorie is an attractive sea resort, famous for its curative mineral waters and the healing property of its mud

Varna is the biggest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and the third largest in Bulgaria. It is located about 130 km northern of Bourgas. On the territory of the city, during archeological researches, were found remains of human activity older than 7000 years. In the 6th century BC here was built the ancient fortress “Odessos”. Nowadays, Varna is a modern city with a lot of tourist attractions and many interesting historical and cultural places to visit.

Plovdiv is the second biggest city in Bulgaria. It is situated around seven hills, called “Tepeta”. Plovdiv’s history dates back to 4000 years. In ancient times there was a Thracian fortified settlement which was conquered by Phillip of Macedonia and the city received the name Phillipopolis. During the course of time, Plovdiv was a possession of different empires like: the Roman Empire (under the name Trimontium), the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire (under the name Filibe). Nowadays, the city of Plovdiv is important industrial, trade and cultural centre in Bulgaria and a popular tourist destination.

Sunny Beach is the biggest and the most popular Black Sea resort in Bulgaria. It is situated about 35 km north of Bourgas, between Nessebar and Sveti Vlas resort. The nearest airports operating in the region are the Bourgas Airport (ca. 25 km) and Varna Airport (ca. 100 km). The beach line is 10 km long and on some places 60 m wide, with soft golden sands and shallow sea bottom, free from rocks and algae. The climate in the summer is hot and dry with average daily temperatures of 28° C of the air and 24-25° C of the water.

Bourgas offers enormous possibilities for entertainment and nightlife emotions. Discos, nightclubs and bars in the city center of Bourgas and along the beach in Bourgas can turn the summer nights into an endless fiesta.
