The Bulgarian sea coast offers the opportunity for a wonderful, peaceful, and wholesome holiday experience. It is quite versatile and provides different experiences throughout the holiday season. Much depends on the timing you choose for your vacation. The beginning, peak, and end of the season each have their own pros and cons, and all of them can offer an unforgettable stay.

The ideal timing depends largely on your personal preferences and expectations. As you may already know, the three main periods of the holiday season in Bulgaria each have distinct characteristics. This is exactly why we have prepared this guide — to help you choose the best time and book your holiday in one of our private villas with a swimming pool.

In this article, we focus on the very end of the summer season — September. There are two distinct periods during the month: the more active first half (until the 15th) and the calmer, quieter, yet still warm second half (from the 15th to the end of the month). Below, we explain what you can expect during both periods.

Weather in September in Bulgaria

The weather before 15th of September

The first half of September is an excellent time to visit the Bulgarian seaside. The weather remains warm and pleasant, similar to late summer, and is ideal for beach activities.

Daytime temperatures along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast typically range between 24°C and 27°C, with occasional warmer days. Sea water temperatures are usually around 22–24°C, making swimming comfortable. Although the UV levels are lower than in July and August, the sun can still be strong around midday, so the use of sunscreen is recommended, especially for children.

September is also a great month to enjoy both the seaside and nature. Our holiday villas for rent offer private swimming pools with comfortably warm water, allowing guests to relax even during cooler evenings. While daytime temperatures remain summery, nights are milder compared to August and much more comfortable for sleeping.

The first half of September does not differ dramatically from the peak summer months, but prices for services such as car rentals, food, and drinks often begin to drop slightly. Airfare during this period is also usually more affordable.

While beaches and resorts are still lively, the large crowds of July and August slowly begin to thin out, creating a more relaxed atmosphere.

Local markets are still well stocked with seasonal fruits and vegetables in early September. Fresh, locally grown produce remains widely available, offering great opportunities to enjoy authentic Bulgarian flavors.

If you enjoy sightseeing and outdoor activities, September offers excellent conditions. Exploring Bulgaria’s beautiful beaches, historical sites, and cultural landmarks is much more comfortable due to the milder temperatures. Car rental prices may still be slightly higher in the first half of the month, but the experience is well worth it.

The weather after 15th of September

The second half of September is noticeably cooler and calmer. The intense summer heat subsides, creating very comfortable conditions for families with children and for sightseeing.

Daytime temperatures typically range between 22°C and 25°C, while sea water temperatures gradually decrease to around 20–22°C. Even though UV levels are lower, light sunscreen is still advisable during sunny days.

Private swimming pools in our holiday villas remain pleasantly warm, allowing guests to enjoy swimming even during the cooler days toward the end of the month.

While daytime weather remains pleasant, evenings can become noticeably cooler, so bringing a light jacket or sweater is recommended. Prices for accommodation, dining, and activities drop significantly, making the second half of September a very budget-friendly travel option.

But there are still many activities to enjoy
