Driving to Bulgaria or hiring a car for your holiday? An electronic vignette (e-vignette) covers a car’s use of Bulgaria’s paid road network for a chosen period.
It is linked to the vehicle’s registration number. There is no sticker to put on the windscreen. Buy the correct vignette and check that it is valid before using a road where payment is required.

Bulgaria e-vignette prices in 2026
The rates below apply from 1 August 2026. These are the official prices for passenger cars and light vehicles with a technically permissible maximum mass up to and including 3.5 tonnes.

Buy your e-vignette & check its validity
Buy directly through BG Toll, the National Toll Administration’s official service. Check an existing vignette before purchasing another one.
You can also use the official BG Toll app or authorised sales points, including participating petrol stations and self-service terminals.
Before you set off
Check the vehicle
Enter its registration country, number plate and correct category. Double-check every character.
Choose the period
Cover every day you need. You can buy up to 30 days ahead; check the start and expiry shown.
Confirm it is valid
Keep the confirmation and check the official register before driving on the paid network.
Paying by bank transfer? Activation takes longer than a card purchase. Wait until the vignette is confirmed as valid before travelling.
Which roads and vehicles need a vignette?
A vignette is required on roads included in Bulgaria’s paid national road network, including motorways. It is not a general charge for every road: ordinary city streets are outside this system.
Look out for vignette signs and check your route before travelling. A short journey outside a town can still use the paid road network.
- Cars and light vans: an e-vignette is required up to and including 3.5 tonnes maximum permissible mass.
- Motorcycles: no Bulgarian vignette is required.
- Motorhomes registered as category M1: use an e-vignette regardless of maximum permissible mass.
- Trailers and caravans: an additional trailer vignette is required when the combined maximum permissible mass exceeds 3.5 tonnes.
- Other vehicles over 3.5 tonnes: generally use the distance-based toll system. Check the vehicle’s registered category with BG Toll.
Common questions before your trip
Does a one-day vignette expire at midnight?
No. It covers 24 hours from your selected start date and time. For example, a start time of 14:00 covers the period until 14:00 the following day. Check the precise expiry displayed in your confirmation.
Will a weekly vignette cover a seven-night holiday?
Count calendar days, not nights. Arriving on a Saturday and leaving the following Saturday spans eight calendar days, so a single weekly vignette will not cover both travel days.
What if I am hiring a car?
Ask the rental company whether a valid Bulgarian vignette is included. Use the vehicle’s number plate and registration country to check it online, and make sure it covers your full rental period.
Do I need a windscreen sticker or printed receipt?
There is no windscreen sticker. Checks use the vehicle’s registration number, including automatic cameras. Keep your purchase confirmation for reference.
What happens if I drive without a valid vignette?
You may have to pay a compensatory fee or a fine. A purchase made later does not cover earlier driving. If you spot an error in your vehicle details, contact BG Toll promptly.
