Some help for buying cheap and flights to Bulgaria

There is no universal rule how to find a cheap flight to Bulgaria. In general there are three types of flights available to Bulgaria:

  • Regular (Scheduled) flights

  • Low budget airlines (like Easy Jet, Ryan Air, Jet2 & Co.)

We strongly recommend to use a website such as Skyscanner, Flightchecker or Kayak. These send your trip details to scores of airlines and flight-broker websites for a range of quotes, listing the cheapest first. You will save massive $$$.

The easiest way is to book over the internet or alternatively through a travel agency if you don’t have much time to spend searching for cheap flights to Bulgaria. If you book online months ahead your chance on finding a cheep flight ticket is bigger than relying on a last minute booking. We have experienced that last minute tickets are most expensive especially on the Low-Budget flights to Bourgas.

Low-Budget Airlines and the “Cheap Tickets”

The golden rule when buying a low-cost flight is “the sooner the cheaper“.

If you are planning a holiday but the dates are not defined yet check some days before and some days after the approximate date you have chosen. You may be able to find a ticket for the next day and much cheaper.

Avoid the time frames used from business travelers. You may choose days that are not very popular for traveling such as Tuesday or Saturday. Flight early in the morning or late in the evening is also a good idea. Usually, when a low budget airline and a regular one both operate and support the same destination, the regular airline offers tickets at reduced prices in order to fill the plane.

Be “flexible” in scheduling your flight – this is the keyword and the secret of the cheap flight ticket. If you may plan your travel early enough and you are not bound by certain dates you may come upon surprisingly cheap flights.

Another keyword for finding a cheap flight ticket is “sale”. The difference between standard and promotional price for travel often exceeds sums of 100 EUR. Check your airline web site for current information and latest promotions like “1-Euro Flights”.

EasyJet (a low budget airline flying to Sofia) advice: Although flight tickets can be purchased from their offices at the airport the company recommends online booking with an additional discount of 11 EUR. It is also advisable to plan your travel earlier to take advantage of lower prices. For the low budget airlines, the date of booking is decisive for the final price of the ticket. If you are mobile – if you are flying on Wednesday your ticket will be much cheaper than flying on Friday or Saturday. The company flies from Sofia to London Gatwick.

Consider flying to Varna?

Scheduled Flights with BA from UK to Varna, Bulgaria

You might also consider flying to Varna if you are not able to find cheaper flights to Bourgas.
We offer an airport transfer form Varna Airport to the Village of Bryastovets for EUR 120 RETURN. The service is provided for up to four people (one car) with standard luggage (limited by boot’s size).

When you book online read all the information very carefully because often there are some additional fees and insurances due to be paid. Pay attention to the insurance because when booking online it is not even mentioned.

Low budget airlines that offer prices similar to the price of bus tickets have some additional charges – luggage transportation charges, for a purchase of priority boarding to be among the first to board the aircraft, for beverages and food, additional insurance.

Lately more and more low budget airlines are flying to Bulgaria (and to Bourgas airport) and more foreign tourists have the chance to visit the country.
When airlines sell you a “direct flight” it does mean that you fly directly to your destination airport but probably with one or even two “stopovers”. The golden rule here is to search for “Non-stop” flights. Each stop means additional fees and the transit stay at the airport is quite expensive. No wonder the prices in the coffee bars and restaurants at the airports are extremely high – they are addressed to these transit travelers who have simply no other choice.

And finally, if we unite all tips in just one sentence it will a conclusion: plan your trip earlier, compare all offers with the prices stated in the web site of your airline company, pay attention to all details and do not think that the price of the flight ticket covers the final price of your travel.

Bulgarien und Rumänien heißen Schengen-Reisende ab dem 1. Januar 2025 offiziell willkommen

Aktualisiert: Januar 2025

Was Reisende jetzt erwartet

  • Keine Passkontrollen an allen Grenzen (Luft, See, Land) für Schengen-Bürger
  • Uneingeschränkter Straßenverkehr zwischen Ungarn, Rumänien und Bulgarien
  • Echtzeit-Navigation berücksichtigt Schengen-Routen (z.B. zeigt Google Maps keine Grenzstopps mehr an)

Top-Ziele jetzt einfacher erreichbar
